If the company name Mophie sounds familiar, it’s for good reason since they’ve become a household name when it comes to battery packs and protective cases for mobile devices. However it appears that Mophie is planning to launch a competitor to Jack Dorsey’s Square device/application/service.

The mobile credit card reader industry could be pretty big, considering that it is a brick and mortar version of PayPal. Could you imagine being able to securely use your credit card to pay a hot dog vendor on the street? These type of mobile payment solutions could help small enterprises accept payment much more efficiently.

Hopefully Mophie launches a great user experience for the service to promote competition and innovation in this brand new market.
