App Store Mania

Leave it to Apple to change the world - Again!  Given the tremendous success of the Apple App Store, which serves up a unending list of downloadable games, tools and other applications developed just for the iPhone — the world of mobile computing will never be the same. Competitors from Microsoft to Google and beyond are lining up with their very own App Stores hoping to get a fat slice of the mobile pie.  

Since the App Store launched in mid-July, more than 60 million applications have been downloaded, including games, productivity tools, calendars, note pads, fitness programs, and more.  And with each download, Apple is making big bank!  It’s estimated that during the first month alone, sales were around one cool million per day.  It’s no wonder that Bill Gates wants a piece of the action… Rumors abound about all the “new” App Stores on the horizon, including Microsoft’s launch of SkyMarket and Google’s launch of Android… But beyond those two giants,  Symbian, TMobile and Verizon are also getting in the game to some degree or another.  Who and What is next?  Who knows!  All I know is that Apple has raised the bar again… and it’s spawning innovation at an unprecedented pace… And that’s good for all of us, and our phones! ; )
