Considering that navigation on mobile devices is eventually going to become the norm, it’s great to see one of the giants in the industry, Nokia, to jump on the bandwagon early.  This week they announced that they will be giving away free turn-by-turn navigation on their Ovi app store.

Each time one of these announcements comes out it drives the stock of personal navigation systems lower.  However it’s only a matter of time before all of our personal service are combined onto a single device, and the trend is now for many of these features to be free.

The iPhone still doesn’t offer a great selection of free navigation services, so unless you are willing to drop $99 on one of the navigation applications, you may want to try out Nokia, or just wait for the inevitable turn-by-turn game changer to pop onto the app store.
