Mobi Publishing… Who Knew?

So, I’m a bit late to the trend of micro-blogging (I only just heard about Twitter over the weekend), and I’m okay with that. I’m more interested in what I think has already proven to be the next step in publishing; texted novels!

I came across a NYTimes article about what could possibly be the future, or end, of books, as we know them.

It turns out that this new medium of fiction writing is very big in Japan

…and while I hope that my kids won’t be getting any big ideas about running up my cell phone bill, as some young authors have by texting their full-length novels, I think that this is a great way to get kids excited about the publishing industry through the mobile media that they are already expert at. And think just how great it would be to have something substantial of your own creation at all times without having to worry about a clunky old book.

Now, the novels that are most popular do eventually get printed, so we won’t be rid of hard books anytime soon, but I wouldn’t be surprised to find that you might that the person next to you on the bus might be tapping away at the great American novel.
