Mobile is taking over the world…

Did you know that 30 countries now exceed 100% per capita mobile phone usage?  I just read a Research Brief from The Center for Media Research that simply blew my mind… I mean, I’ve been following the mobile revolution for a long time and I know how big mobile is poised to become… I guess I just didn’t realize how far we’ve already come…According to a recent Experian study, there are now 2.7 billion mobile phones in use globally…. compared to only 850 million personal computers, 1.3 billion fixed landline phones, and 1.5 billion TV sets. Whoa!!  Does that not blow just your mind? The study reports that by early 2006, 30 countries had already exceeded 100% per capita cell phone usage.  Believe it or not, the U.S. is not one of those countries! As of the date of the study, the U.S. had roughly an 80% per capita mobile phone penetration rate — and is not expected to top off at 100% per capital penetration until 2013!  Jeez… talk about a slow poke… ”Between January 2001 and December 2010, our global society will have transformed from one where 13% carried a mobile phone, to one where 70% carry one.”  Go World, Go!!   For more information, you can download a full White Paper on the Study… Happy reading!
