My Apple iPhone Review
Sorry for my long delay in getting this review out to you, but I wanted to live with my new iPhone for a while so I could objectively test whether it would live up to all the hype, including my own.
Nine days in and I’m happy to report — it does. Believe the hype! Let’s start with the obvious. The new iPhone is beautiful. It has a sleek design and the user interface is so much fun to use. There’s not another phone out there that can compete on this front. But beyond the splendid design, it works really well. The phone is easy to use and to navigate, and comes with a great set of stereo earbuds with an integrated mic. The earbuds have a button to let you answer calls, put calls on hold, and answer or decline to answer incoming calls. It also lets you advance your audios and videos on the fly.
Then there’s the “pinch”. If you essentially pinch your fingers on the screen by drawing them together to mimick the movement of closing (drawing thumb and index finger together across the screen as if you are closing something, or the opposite to expand) you can zoom in or out of any content you are viewing. So cool!
The screen is bold and clear, the resolution lovely, and the icons easy to understand and maneuver - and they look cool to boot.
Then there’s the virtual keyboard. This definitely takes a little getting used to - but I like it. Every once in a while I’ll hit the wrong key with my pleasantly plump fingers - but hey, I used to do that with my Blackberry too… No big deal. I’m getting better with the keyboard everyday.
The other thing I love about the new iPhone is Visual Voice Mail. You can actually see your voicemail listings on your iPhone and play the messages back in any order you like… That means, you don’t need to listen to a million annoying messages just to get to the one you’re really dying to hear. Cool beans! But wait, there’s more.
There’s the YouTube videos and the frikkin’ iPod and the camera. I think I’m getting faint! There is so much power packed into this little mini-computing device, I wonder if I can finally toss my jagunda laptop. I think the day is not too far off.
And now for the last bit of iPhone goodness - the App Store. A never ending array of applications to expand my iPhone experience into new and unchartered realms every day. This is pure heaven wrapped up in a phone. Get it. You’ll love it.
