Will a Mobile Strategy Push Chinese Online Video to Profitability
If you’re familiar with the Chinese tech industry, you know that several online video companies have invested hundreds of millions of dollars, attempting to create a profitable enterprise. One of the most prominent firms, raising over $85 million dollars to date, is Tudou.com, which just announced a new partnership and mobile strategy for the Asian market. Sarah Lacy, a tech reporter from Yahoo! News and Techcrunch, has reported that Tudou.com has won the honor of becoming the exclusive mobile content partner for China Mobile, the nation’s largest carrier.
It could become very interesting in the US and UK mobile industries if Tudou.com is able to leverage this partnership to achieve profitability. The reason why this is important to the domestic online media companies is because no one has effectively become the true leader in the mobile video space as of yet. Even though YouTube is the default video player on iPhones and Android devices, mobile video viewing still has not reached the adoption level as the PC based audience.
We’ll keep you up to date on the progress of Tudou.com and their new partnership with China Mobile as the news becomes available.
