WinMo 7 to Launch in One Year

If you stay up to date with the tech community, you know that Windows 7 has been making a big splash for desktop operating systems. However it appears that we are still around one year away from seeing Windows Mobile 7 (WinMo 7) launching to the public. As with Bing and Windows 7, Microsoft is going to have to play catch up with users due to the increasing adoption of the iPhone and Android phones.

However Microsoft is appealing to the developer community right now, by opening up the platform for new applications that will launch with the operating system next year. Having a strong selection of applications will be vital for Microsoft, since apps have become one of the most important aspects of smartphones since the launch of the iPhone App Store.

James Kendrick, from JkOnTheRun had this to say about the announcement, “The Windows Marketplace for Mobile turned the lights on for business, making a place for Windows phone owners to go for the latest and greatest in apps for WinMo. Phones with the Windows Marketplace app get purchased apps pushed OTA to the phone. The Marketplace is confined to Windows phones running WM6.5 currently, but Microsoft confirmed it would be available for WM6.0 and 6.1 later this month.”
